WHAT DOES OUR NAME MEAN?
scary polony is an eclectic mosaic of the times that's sausaged for your perusal, to be consumed for your pleasure and to have and to hold, for years to come.
As we look ahead at 21st century challenges that at times appear overwhelming, the role of art to provoke, encourage, engage, activate and reciprocate has never been more necessary.
BREAKING OPEN THE WHITE CUBE, we welcome first time buyers and first time artists alongside established artists and those that play in the peripheries. Our gallery walls are not dominated by the who is who. We aim to democratise the process of buying art, holding art and showing art with an offering that is untainted by the walls of traditional white cube galleries.
Our culture for showing art is IMMERSIVE. It is experiental for both the creator and the viewer. We believe that viewing art should be completely consuming, overwhelming all of the senses in a transformative overload; a synesthesia like experience in which one of your senses will be triggered through another.

A SLICE ABOUT US
AND HOW WE WERE DICED TOGETHERscary polony curators and partners Warren Scheuer and Robyn Lidsky were diced together in 2021 to host the very first of their unique, nomadic, immersive art experiences. Beneath a startling aerial silk performance, unlikely pairings of artistic mediums were connected in an unexpected bouquet and an empty, under utilised 3 storey building was temporarily activated by a visual and experiential feast. This first experience of inventive, new-wave, expressive creation was so nourishing that it marked their entry into the sausage fest.With diverse backgrounds and skill sets, scary polony merges the play of aesthetics, design, trends, fine art and hardcore (sometimes grassroots) entrepenuership specific to the South African context. -
